Amen, FreeTextBox.NET
Saw this via
Jesse Ezell, amen, rejoice, etc. Well, if it turns out to be decent, I haven't worked it over yet--
FreeTextBox.NET.
I've been looking of a rich html editor that was both good and free for a while. I'm all for paying for decent components when they're out there. I happen to agree with Jesse that there are dreadfully few that are well worth the money. Moreover, when did it become logical to charge for web controls on a per-site basis?--this seems to have become the norm with a lot of one-tool shops.
Which is infuriating because it's nothing more than another way to charge
royalties on some minor component. Component vendors need to extricate their head from their ass on this issue, I'm not going to pay you per site royalties for your component unless it cooks my meals and cleans my apartment. I'll pay you a reasonable fee for a developer license. And maybe even some maintenance or support if it's relevant. But that's it. If you don't want this kind of business, trust me, some other developer does.
You can make the economic argument for site licensing all day long. And the market will come along and furnish a competitive tool that provides adequately similar functionality without your leveraged pricing. They might even do it for free. (Which is roughly what most third-party controls have been worth to date.)
